Edward Fong

Mr. Ed Fong is retired. Ed worked for Sempra (parent company for Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) and San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) from 1982-2016. Ed is a graduate of University of California, San Diego (UCSD) with undergraduate and graduate degrees in economics with an emphasis in mathematics and international trade.
His position prior to retirement was the Director of Performance Management & Organizational Strategy at SoCalGas. He also directed and managed Customer Contact Centers during 2016 Aliso Canyon crisis. From 2010-2016, Ed was responsible for strategic planning, long term workforce planning, operations research and industrial engineering services, data mining, data analysis, and provided operations optimization analytic support for all areas of the business for SoCalGas. Prior to his last position, he was Director of Strategic Planning & Analysis. Ed is an active member of the Society of America for Baseball Research (SABR). Ed facilitated the development of SABR’s strategy plan with SABR’s Board of Directors during the 2019-2022 period. Ed was a member of the American Economic Association (AEA) for much of his professional work career. Prior to retirement, Ed was a full member of the Institute of Operations Research and Management Science (INFORMS). He was also a member of the Executive Advisory Council for the Utility Analytics Institute and on the External Advisory Panel for University of California, San Diego Division of Social Sciences.
Since retirement, Ed has served as a member of the Board of Directors for Toberman Neighborhood Center (TNC) (June 2022 – August 2024) and Chairperson of the Board (July 2023 – June 2024). TNC is a non-profit community organization working with low-income families, public housing, youth gang prevention and intervention, family services and unhoused population. TNC provides a foodbank, thrift store, gym, classroom and outdoor playground. TNC has $4-5 million in annual expenses and approximately $6 million in facilities and other assets.
Ed is involved with and contributes to various environmental, conservation and land preservation organizations, including The Nature Conservancy, Ocean Conservancy, National Wildlife Federation, World Wildlife Fund, National Parks Conservation Association, National Parks Foundation, California State Parks Foundation and Marine Mammal Center.
