Overview

Pacific Whale Foundation is committed to inspiring individuals to embrace the role of environmental stewards, fostering a sense of responsibility towards the ocean and its preservation. Ocean Ambassador volunteers stay informed about and share the latest PWF efforts, upcoming events, volunteer opportunities and ways to make a difference. Through meaningful interactions, volunteers have the opportunity to increase awareness and cultivate a deeper understanding of the vital work being done to protect marine ecosystems.

Volunteers actively engage with the public to raise awareness of Hawaii’s endangered false killer whales and the threats they face, including competition and bycatch from commercial fishing. This position centers on gathering petition signatures in support of stronger protections against the commercial fishing practices threatening false killer whales in Hawai‘i with extinction. The volunteer role requires a three-hour consistent commitment for at least three months outside at the PWF kiosk at Maui Ocean Center and every fourth shift aboard a PacWhale Eco-Adventure cruise.

If you share a deep connection with the ocean or seek to learn more about marine conservation, we invite you to embark on this journey with us. All volunteers receive comprehensive training on PWF programs and volunteer responsibilities. While previous volunteer experience is not required, a strong desire to learn and contribute to marine conservation efforts is essential. High school students (with parental consent) and older are welcome to apply.
