The 2023 7th Annual World Whale Film Festival showcases films by powerful storytellers from around the world. Inspiring action for a better, bluer future, WWFF raises awareness about the ocean, marine wildlife conservation, Indigenous ecological knowledge, environmental stewardship, and solutions for the ocean and humankind—as our future is connected. The annual festival takes place during World Ocean month, beginning June 8, and includes in-person and online events that:
- Increase global awareness
- Connect film viewers, filmmakers and organizations to further conservation action
- Raise funds for PWF’s mission to protect the ocean through science and advocacy and inspire environmental stewardship
Founded by PWF’s late founder, Greg Kaufman, and his wife and PWF documentary filmmaker, Selket Kaufman, WWFF has expanded significantly since its inaugural year. Here are the links to Selket Kaufman’s films.
All proceeds from the event support:
- Pacific Whale Foundation’s whale research in Hawai‘i and the global Pacific
- Marine education programs for school children
- Conservation programs including efforts to keep the ocean free of marine debris, prevent vessel-whale collisions, promote sustainable tourism, mitigate climate change, and end bycatch and whaling worldwide.

The in-person events include the screening of official selections at OCEAN Organic Farm & Distillery on June 8, a vital PWF partner, and a VIP Cruise on June 9 with Filmmakers sponsored by PacWhale Eco-Adventures, and access to the Online Event June 8-July 31. Online only tickets are also available for purchase.
